Effects of Chiropractic Treatment on Blood Pressure and Anxiety:
A randomized, controlled trial. Yates RG, Lamping DL, Abram NL, Wright C
J Manipulative Physiol Ther. 1988 Dec; 11(6):484-8.
The Science Says:
Abstract: This study examined the effects of chiropractic adjustments of the thoracic spine (T1-T5) on blood pressure and state anxiety in 21 patients with elevated blood pressure.
Clinical Features: Subjects were randomly assigned to one of three treatment conditions: active treatment, placebo treatment, or no treatment control.
The Art Says:
Intervention and Outcome: The adjustments were performed by a mechanical chiropractic adjusting device. Dependent measures obtained pre- and post-treatment included systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and state anxiety. Results indicated that systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreased significantly in the active treatment condition, whereas no significant changes occurred in the placebo and control conditions. State anxiety significantly decreased in the active and control conditions.
Conclusion: Results provide support for the hypothesis that blood pressure is reduced following chiropractic treatment. Further study is needed to examine the long-term effects of chiropractic adjustments on blood pressure.
The Philosophy Says:
Principle #33: The Law of Demand and Supply. The Law of Demand and Supply exists in the body in its ideal state; wherein the nerves transmit messages from the body, concerning its needs, to the brain, which acts as the central processing unit for the body’s innate intelligence, and from the brain to the body to meet those needs.
Have you ever wondered why individuals with “normal” cholesterol and blood pressure still have heart attacks and strokes? While their physiological ranges may be normal (cholesterol under 200 and blood pressure 120/80), sickness and disease strikes them down. The reason why: pharmaceutical intervention never gets to the cause. Drugs provide a temporary band-aid or worse, a masking of symptoms, pushing you into a normal range, while the root of the problem grows deeper.
The nerves from the heart (or anywhere in the body) will transmit messages to the brain, concerning its needs. If it needs to pump harder, softer, or maintain homeostasis, the heart will communicate its present requirements. The innate/inborn electrical, life-giving signals are then transmitted from brain to heart (or any tissue cell) delivering the requisite control and coordination. Drugs have no intelligence. Your body has infinite intelligence.
Remember, when you unscientifically manipulate your blood pressure or cholesterol levels, you never get to the true functional cause, thereby leaving the body in a worse state. Chiropractic adjustments get to cause, remove nerve interference, improve transmission and function, and ultimately allow the Law of Supply and Demand to operate normally in your body; the natural result = ELEVATED HEALTH!
